Corpus Christi Homeowners Could Get Big Help With Repair Costs

Homeowners in Corpus Christi, Texas, may soon get some much-needed help paying for critical home repairs. But with funding limited, the city expects more eligible applicants than available grants.

Through the Minor Home Repair Program, up to 38 qualifying homeowners could receive grants worth as much as $24,999. Applications will be accepted from October 13 through October 27.

Who Can Qualify?

Applicants must have at least one serious repair need involving health, safety, or basic livability. Eligible projects can include:

  • 🏠 Roofing repairs
  • 🔧 Plumbing and electrical work
  • ❄️ Heating and air conditioning repairs
  • 🛠️ Minor structural fixes
  • ♿ Accessibility improvements

The program is available to homeowners who meet at least one of these requirements:

  • Age 62 or older
  • A veteran or surviving spouse of a veteran
  • The homeowner or someone in the household has a disability

Winners Will Be Chosen by Lottery

This isn't a first-come, first-served program. Since the city expects applications to exceed available funding, eligible applicants will be entered into a lottery to determine who receives assistance.

The funding comes from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) through the Community Development Block Grant program.

Need Help Applying?

Residents can get assistance with the application in English or Spanish at La Retama Central Library, 805 Comanche St. Staff from the city's Planning and Economic Development Department will be available:

  • Tuesday-Friday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Saturday-Sunday: 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Applicants should bring a valid photo ID along with current income records for every adult in the household. Documents can include pay stubs, Social Security award letters, veterans' benefit statements, and retirement income records.

The key deadline is October 27, so eligible homeowners should make sure their paperwork is ready before applying.
