Mowing the Lawn Leads to $150K Win for Maryland Man
A Maryland man says his $150,000 lottery win started with a simple chore — mowing the lawn.
While cutting his neighbor’s grass in Upper Marlboro, a string of numbers — 1, 3, 6, 0, 5 — suddenly came to mind and wouldn’t leave him alone. When he got home, his wife encouraged him to play them. “She told me, ‘You should play those numbers,’” he said. “So, I did — and it worked!”
The longtime player, who’s been buying tickets for more than 35 years, typically goes for the big jackpot games like Powerball and Mega Millions. But that day, he decided to take a shot at the Pick 5 — and bought three tickets using the same numbers.
When he later scanned his ticket and saw the $150,000 prize, he shouted to his wife, “Baby, look at this!” The couple paused to take it in, saying, “We both just took a moment and prayed.”
He’s keeping the big win quiet for now but plans to settle a few bills, treat his wife — his “good luck charm” — and take a well-earned road trip.
Feeling thankful and optimistic, he added with a smile, “I’m grateful and motivated to win again… but I think I’ll take a little break from Pick 5 for now.”
