A Boston-area student who won a $1 million lottery prize earlier this month after purchasing a winning scratch ticket in Hyde Park said he will use the money to help him pursue a career in healthcare, the Massachusetts State Lottery said.

Jean Roody Chery chose the cash option for his prize and received a one-time payment of $650,000 before taxes. He claimed the prize Nov. 4, officials said.

The winning ticket was from the lottery game “100X The Money,” according to the state lottery, and was purchased at Laly’s Market located at 2 Fairmount Ave. in Hyde Park.

The store received a $10,000 bonus for its sale of the ticket, the state lottery said.
