Fortunate scratch off lottery player wins a big jackpot recently in Peabody

Despina Nirgianakis said that she and her family typically buy scratch tickets together on holidays.

This past Greek Easter, that tradition paid off in a big way as one of those tickets was a $1 million prize winner.

The Mass. Lottery said the Peabody woman was a recent winner in the "$10,000,000 Bonus Wins" instant game.

Nirgianakis chose the one-time payment and will receive $650,000 before taxes.

She bought the ticket at Convenience Plus on Main Street in North Reading. That store will receive a $10,000 bonus for its sale of the ticket.

The winner has only 180 days from the day of the lottery draw to claim the winning prize money and if not claimed then it will be donated to a charity, lottery officials said.
