A Detroit man won $100,000 Powerball lottery prize

Freddie Purry, 65, of Detroit wins $100K Powerball lottery prize in the August 18 drawing. The lucky winner matched four of the five white ball numbers and the Powerball number drawn for that night.

Powerball winning numbers for August 18 draw were - 35, 36, 51, 55, 61. The Powerball number was 26 and the powerplay was 2X.

The lucky winner actually won $50,000 prize but he says thanks to the powerplay option that multiplied the winning prize to $100,000.

Purry bought the winning ticket at the Freeway Beverage Liquor, located at 2568 Dix Highway in Lincoln Park.

"I had been on a trip and had a stack of tickets to check when I got home. I was going through them one by one and when I scanned this ticket it stopped me in my tracks!" Purry said while at the lottery headquarter for claiming the prize.

"It is just crazy that I won, I can barely believe it. I'm so thrilled to win $100K, but I can't help but think about missing the jackpot by one number," he said.

Purry plans to take care of some home improvement staff and safe the remaining of his windfall.
