Forgotten Ticket Turns Into $13 Million Jackpot

Australian Couple Finds $13 Million Powerball Ticket on Their Fridge

Imagine walking past a $13 million lottery ticket every day and not even knowing it. That’s exactly what happened to one Australian couple.

  • The shocking discovery: For days, their winning Powerball ticket sat untouched on the fridge. They were too busy to check the numbers after the Sept. 4 drawing.

  • The big reveal: When they finally looked, they realized they were holding one of four division one winning entries, worth more than $13 million USD (about $20 million AUD).

  • Pure chance: The wife said the ticket was a simple QuickPick, yet some of the winning numbers lined up with family birthdays and her lucky number. “It was meant to be,” she laughed.

The couple, grandparents from Melbourne’s Brighton suburb, said they’ve been buying tickets on and off for years. While they’ve always worked hard, this windfall means they can finally slow down. Plans include supporting their kids and grandkids and maybe even buying themselves a “little house.”

“This is unbelievable,” the wife told officials at The Lott. “We had no idea. It was just sitting there the whole time!” She even joked about whether it’s time to retire after the life-changing news.

The lucky ticket was purchased at East Brighton Newsagency, where the shop owner was just as thrilled. “This is the first Division One winning ticket we’ve sold since I took over,” he said. “I’m so happy for them!”

The winning numbers were 9, 22, 23, 3, 13, 28, and 32, with Powerball 5.
