$1 million lottery prize unclaimed in Iowa after six months
The Iowa Lottery has announced that a $1 million prize for the Mega Millions game remains unclaimed six months after the numbers were drawn.
The winning ticket was purchased at The Filling Station/Gateway Expresse in Ames and was the only ticket in the country to match the five white balls, making it a $1 million winner.
However, it missed the yellow Mega Ball to win at the game’s second prize level, which would have been a $191 million jackpot. The convenience store that sold the ticket received a $1,000 bonus from the Iowa Lottery.
The winning numbers for the Sept. 6 drawing were 6, 17, 46, 59, and 68. The Mega Ball was 2, and the Megaplier number was 4. It was the third time last summer that an Iowa Mega Millions ticket won its owner at least $1 million.
The Iowa Lottery is reminding players to check their tickets because Mega Millions tickets “are valid for 365 days after the drawing in which the prize was won,” according to its website.
